How to set up a Minecraft server on a Mac?

I've downloaded the "minecraft server" from minecraft.net and I followed the instructions from this website: http://www.minecraftforum.net/...ver-on-mac

When I tried to log into my server from the minecraft application, the minecraft server says this: 2014-09-08 06:49:26 [INFO] Disconnecting /192.168.1.14:58081: Protocol error
2014-09-08 06:49:26 [INFO] /192.168.1.14:58081 lost connection

What does this mean?

I really want to be able to host my own server so I can play with my friends anytime. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Is it possible to host your own domain at home?

I last time saw a video, this guy made an email server and added a domain in the hosts file, but it is not forwarded to the public.

Can i host it on my own server with server 2008 r2 or something?

Any cool game modes I can play on vanilla Minecraft?

My friend and I are making a new server and we're looking for a cool game mode to play that we can make with commands or something like that. Some examples are infinite darkness, skyblock, survival island, stuff like that.

I can't port forward a minecraft server?

I have a NETGEAR router and my IP is 192.168.1.1. I go to port forwarding/port triggering and is claims that there's no services. So, i click on add custom service and i type in all my info and my internal IP which is 192.168.1.22. Now, i press apply and it brings me up to a screen that says "the specified port you are trying to use is being used by other configurations". Then i look down and i see that the computer that i'm using is using that port. What do i do to make a Minecraft server?

Minecraft server won't load up?

I need some help. I have made a mine craft server and followed all the instructions I found on youtube videos on how to make a server. The only problem is that when i click the application, it won't load up and start. It just has:

Memory use: 28 mb (48% free)
Avg tick: 0.000 ms

In the Stats box. The numbers change slightly very slowly, but go up and down around though's numbers. I'm using Windows 8 for this and I have checked that Java is on its latest update.

Can't connect to one specific Minecraft server?

So, at my house, where I live I can connect to my friend's minecraft server, fine with no conflict. However, at my Dad's house, I can't connect at all. This is only me who can't. All my other friends can fine. Why is it just me who can't connect?

What's the best seed for a Minecraft survival server?

I need a seed for my new Minecraft survival world on my server
I need one that has the most possible biomes in an area where you can travel between them
The biomes i want the most are:
Plains
Forest
Roofed forest
Hills/Extreme hills
Desert
Swamplands
savanna
