Minecraft Multiplayer Servers?

I'm just looking for a server where a beginner can learn with other people. I don't care if its a survival or pvp but I just want to play multiplayer. I may record some of the gameplay and post on youtube but I'm not entirely sure. So if anyone has an active server that I could possibly join, that'd be great. Thanks!

Added (1). Okay I realized that I didn't add something very important. I have an old laptop so the most "up-to-date" version of Minecraft is 1.7.2. So anything equal to or less than that, I can play. But if its like 1.7.9, I can't play. Sorry.

Why can't I connect to any servers?

It's mostly mine craft, but not just for that game or just games total, any type of servers I want to join I just can't, and when I do, it lasts five minuts and then crashes with a crash report with most of the errors server related, and some people say it's the server itself but I have tried servers that I know would be up and running, I recently just got a new iMac, and I downloaded Minecraft and it's when I started noticing I can't connect to servers, I thought it was just the Mac so I went to my Laptop (PC) and tried it there, same problems, so I knew then that it was router/Wi-Fi related, I read that if you have a ping lower than 25MS then you can't get into servers, my ms is ranging between 40-125 ion most cases 40-80, and I have a download speed of 52 mbps and an upload of 3 mbps. I can still host and connect to my server. So I thought it was the firewall, so I went and it's still on the low setting and I can't access what it's blocking and such. If someone can help me that would be very helpful, and I don't want a bunch of people saying they I have the same problem, I want real answers, this is very important for my YouTube and my parents's jobs.

So I was planning to make an epic minecraft trailer with epic song of my awesome minecraft server, but i'm afraid I might get sued for a stolen song. I heard people say that you won't get sued as long as you don't earn money from the video. But i'm not sure about this… I've seen alot of popular people with stolen song and they don't get trouble, but when I see unpopular people they get banned for posting up stolen songs.

Well, I'm looking to rent minecraft server, and I want to know how can I set it up or what website I can rent a server?

Also, I want an IP address for my server so I won't use my parent's router for it. Any idea how I can have my own ip number so I won't effect my parents' IP address?
