I just got a minecraft server

I got a minecraft server off of hosthorde.com. I immediately got on the server I bought and was on survival. I don't really want to be on survival and want to change my gamemode and be able to tp and do other commands. I type in commands and it says "I'm sorry, but you do not have permission to do this command" I don't know how to take control of my server and have already tried asking hosthorde and they don't give any good info. I have tried doing /op (my player name) which the same thing pops up, I don't have permission. I don't really know too much stuff, like how to get to the server's counsel or any of that! Let's just say… Explain it to me assuming I know NOTHING!

Is it Illegal to Hack Into Someone's Minecraft Account?

Just saying first: I wouldn't access any actual money accounts. Just in-game stuff. But I was wondering, I play on this Minecraft server and this one dude who no one likes (It's a small server) always kills everyone. I was just wondering if it would be legal to hack into his account and get the stuff back. He always wins it unfairly and he has hack clients but we haven't been able to prove it fully. As I already said is it illegal to do this? I WOULD NOT access any money accounts or anything of the sort.

How to port forward a Minecraft server on Airport Extreme?

Please don't ignore this! The last questions I asked were ignored:'C
I have a Airport Extreme Router (Version 7.7.3) and Minecraft 1.7.9. I have made a Custom CraftBukkit server recently using my own computer as the host. I tried to port forward by logging into the Router on a *MAC* (NO WINDOWS INSTRUCTIONS Please! I BEG YOU!) using Airport Utility, going into network, clicking the plus sign below port settings, and typing in the description Minecraft_Server, and putting 25565 into everything but Private IP Address, in which I put the IP address shown in System Preferences/Network. I changed the IP in the server.properties file to match the value entered into Private IP Address. Did I do something wrong? Also, if there's a solution that involves spending money for something, I can't do that. I have no money to spend right now (I spent it all). I CAN access the server on my computer by typing into the Direct Connect bar in minecraft "localhost". Also, when I have tried to connect on a separate account on a separate computer I used these IPs:
-my private IP
-my private IP with:25565 at the end

Why does the minecraft server crash when I join?

I used to play on this server 24/7 but then I went to the nether and used the command /world to get out instead of the portal. I was on with a few friends and then it just crashed! I came on 1 day later and nothing is different. Now when I join on that account it just crashes the server. When I join with my alternate account it is regular nothing different. Please help! PS. It crashes the server not my client.

I can't join any minecraft servers?

I have no idea what the heck is going on with minecraft, but when I installed, a couple mods:
Animated Player 1.7.2,
Remote IO 1.7.2,
Jump Pads 1.7.2,
minecraft has started acting strangely. There was strange lighting errors, like if I had an item in my hand, it was dark, but when i had a block in my hand, it was normal. I ignored this because the shaders i installed actually fix this problem. But when I tried to join my local server, it said "Bad Packet id: {insert random number here}", and when i joined again, it said "Frame Error bigger than -21 bit" Or something. And it KEPT ON making weird excuses for crashing, like "String larger than expected or something." I tried completely uninstalling minecraft and all of it's data by deleting the.minecraft folder. Didn't work. Same thing kept on happening. I'll probably never find a solution for this, but i just want someone to help me somehow.

Added (1). It's not only for my server, it's for every single server i join, even when i switch the version to 1.7.9
