Random iron ore on Minecraft PE?

I was playing Minecraft PE with a friend and I was showing him where I was going to build. On the way he found 4 pieces of random iron ore at the surface. It was not there before when I marked my building place. Any idea of what the hexk is going on?

Added (1). The iron ore was placed. It wasn't floating as if it were dropped.
