What can obsidian be used for in minecraft?

I 've got somewhere around 100 pieces of obsidian (which took quite a while to harvest) and from what I know you have an enchantment table that you can make and the nether portal. So is there anything else or did I flood a lava pool and gather it for nothing xD

Laptop specifically for Minecraft?

I'm looking for a low-priced laptop that can run Minecraft (Texturepacks + high settings) at a decent framerate (30-60 or higher).

I'm not much of a gamer, however both myself and my girlfriend enjoy playing minecraft for a few hours a day, but my currently laptop has died. I'm trying to find one as cheaply as possible. I don't care about it running Crysis or anything, Just so long as it can run Minecraft.

Hoping for around £300, but answering the cheapest you know of is still good.

Minecraft on new computer?

I just had my computer re-imaged (set back to factory default) and I had minecraft on it, id paid for it and played it lots and I can't get it back! When I re-download it, it is in demo mode! Is there a way I can get it back to full mode? I don't care if I lose my worlds just want my account back!

Computers? What sort do I need?

My brother wants a desktop PC for his birthday. He wants to be able to play things like minecraft and Euro truck simulator on it.
what specifications does he need on a computer for both of these games?
what are some computer shops for the UK other than pc world?
can he get away with a normal computer or does he need a gaming computer or something inbetween?

How come Fraps won't let me record my web browser?

I have the recording software called "Fraps". I usually use it to record PC games like Minecraft. But I want to start recording internet games like Happy Wheels and other stuff. But when I try to record my web browser (on chrome) it won't let me. I have version 3.5.99. I have tried to enable Monitor Aero Desktop like some tutorials say to, but it doesn't work.

Why does minecraft lag for me? - 1

My specs:
AMD fx 8350 4ghz 8 cores
8 GB of ram 1666 mhz DDR3
Nvidia GTX 450 512 mb ram
Windows 8 64 bits

My question is why does minecraft lag for me? I usualy get around 5-10 fps on modded minecraft and maybe 20-30 fps on vanilia minecraft. I have allocated 2 gigs of ram to the java machine but its still not working like its should.
