What can obsidian be used for in minecraft?

I 've got somewhere around 100 pieces of obsidian (which took quite a while to harvest) and from what I know you have an enchantment table that you can make and the nether portal. So is there anything else or did I flood a lava pool and gather it for nothing xD

Obsidian can be used for a very strong wall. It is hard to break and can easily withstand a creeper explosion.

You could use obsidian for decorative purposes, but in survival it is best used as a resistance to explosions. Think your hideout could explode? Surround it with obsidan. Doesn't have to be a whole lot, 2 blocks high. Explosive damage will not penetrate obsidian.
Think your hideout could be invaded by other plyrs? Surround it with more obsidian, even in the ground.

You can also make stuff like tables and portals. Minecraft had been updated so you can make a portal from normal size, to a giant sized portal. As long as you can expand from the regular portal.
