Best CPU for Asus p5gc-mx1333?

I'm already building a gaming desktop with the 270x and what not, so this is asides from that fact.
But I have an older PC with the asus p5gc-mx 1333 motherboard, 2gb DDR2, and an LGA775 socket. I'm getting an old GTX 260 2gb tomorrow for 40$, so figured I'd throw it in there, and pair with a somewhat decent processor. But I'm not familiar with this MB or the socket type. So what's the best CPU I can get for this motherboard? I was thinking an Intel Core E8600. This isn't any specific PC, but it would be cool to have a spare my buddies could play Minecraft with me on or something.

Is it safe to put a nether portal in your house in minecraft?

I build a really big, cool mansion in minecraft. The third floor has and awsome giant attic with a skylight roof. Anyway this room is actually kind of creepy looking, and I think it would look awsome to put the nether portal up there. That being said the last thing I want is the creature from the nether spawning into my house through the portal. Is it safe?

What new things Have been aded to minecraft since last year?

I started playing minecraft yesterday after a year of no play and I saw a few new things like a new type of mineral block (andensite), a bunny and an underwater temple with arches and some different lantern block. It was pretty cool but what else have they added?
