New to Minecraft? What should I do?

So most of my friends play Minecraft, and frankly I wasn't very interested. I mean sure sounds fun but I had other things to do. Recently, I bought Minecraft and now I don't know what to do.
I've heard things like skins and mods what are those? Is there like a certain basics I should know to stuff like this? Oh and I'm talking about multiplayer. I kind of know a little little about making stuff in single player. So I just wanted to see what you would do and things I should get and know to do.

Minecraft can't login on website?

I can't login on minecraft.net or the mojan website. I can sign in on the launcher and play online. Just not on the website. I recently bought the game and I found this out when I was trying to change my skin.

How to change the skin of Zombies in Minecraft 1.7.2?

My mom said i can't play minecraft because of the zombies… But if i could make them look like bears or something i would be aloud o play minecraft! So please help me. And No i'm not going to place torches around minecraft OR turning it on peacefu… Peacefuls Way to easy. Also I can change files inside the finder and stuff. So if i have to go and mod minecraft i can to a point.

Added (1). Well zachary I have had nightmares about zombies… Thats why she won't let me play it… And I tried replacing the zombie skin it doesn't work

My Minecraft Skin Was Taken Down?

For no reason, might I add. I'm a person who has her own style of shading, and likes to apply them to other people's skins and give them credit for the outline of the character's clothing. This one, however, was taken down for no reason whatsoever. I didn't break the upload rules, I gave credit, I even got the person's permission to make this skin! That's how much I don't want to spend ages on something and have it removed. But sure enough, it got removed. I don't understand what for, I made it from scratch as to avoid them thinking I stole it from someone else. I also went as far as making it in a different colour palette for them. I got loads of comments on my skin, all positive, then a few hours later when I went to check on it, it was gone from my profile! I'm glad I'm one of those people who likes to save things to the hard drive just in case, but I still lost all my views, my toes, and my praise. Can anyone give me any reason? It was uploaded to "Skindex" if that helps, too.

Why are other people aloud to copy your minecraft skin?

Even though you don't enable it to be shared people can steal you character skin. Why can other people make their own skins or use ones that are shared? Not ones that the creator didn't want to share with other to just keep to him/her self? Basically the people copying them are just wannabes or fan boys of that creator. People that don't know how to be >Original<.

MineCraft is a black/white color and?

It's not on the title screen but in single or multiplayer.
I was just in the options page and may have clicked something, but I don't know what I clicked on…
I thought it may have been the smooth lighting but I tried all the other options (Off, minimum and maximum) and none of them change it.

Also, I tried changing my skin and it won't show up (that's the only skin that won't work for me).

Added (1). nvm, I got the black and white to go away, but if anyone knows about the skins…
