I click the downloaded server, but it doesn't open at all. It acts like it is going to open, but never does. The only thing it creates is a blank logs text document. Someone please help, thank you in advance!
I've got a small minecraft server in my basement and I was hoping to expand to a hosting company because the basement PC wasn't working out. Because I need it cheap I chose for the 768MB Dirt package on MCProHosting.
That would be enough if we were to be running vanilla normal survival but we're playing on an amplified world and I don't think 768MB is enough.

I have a windows xp sp3 and when i go start>control panel>security center>windows firewall it says it can't be displayed and i press yes and it says it couldnt start, how do i get it to start. I tryed so many things and it just won't start i tried netsh winsock restart. I tried netsh firewall restart i tried downloading another file for registry editor but it says it couldnt obtain information and so on. I wanted to download hamatchi for minecraft so i can make servers but it won't let me without the firewall connection. I tried the fix it program but even that didn't work and i don't wanna restore the whole computer, i remember deleting some file from windows a hard drive disk for some reason was that the ics folder? Ill try anything to make it work.
There was an update for minecraft and after me and my sister updated multiplayer weren't working. Me and my sister wanted to play minecraft and so I made a world and when she got on multiplayer she couldn't find my world. I turned on LAN and she still don't see it. When I got on multiplayer I see her world but couldn't get in. It said "Failed to connect server" in grey and in white it said "Operation failed" Help!
Alight, so I started my Minecraft server at least two years ago. I advertised on PMC Minestatus, and everything else.
I mean EVERYTHING. Be it Facebook, Twitter, Minecraft Servers, or whatever.
So it got only a couple players, and some of those (most of them) were just friends from other servers.
So eventually, (keep in mind I do home hosting) the server computer I was using, basically exploded. Just outta the blue. So later, I got a new computer for it, around 6 months later, and that was about 3 months ago.
So I got most of the people I got from my old Minecraft server from PMC, but I bump the submission for my post every day, and NO ONE JOINS. I have a good banner, but literally, nobody, not even ONE gets on after bumping the PMC submission.
My server is a Survival and Creative server. I have a plugin called Multiverse that allows me to have a PlotMe creative world, and a spawn world, and a survival world all at the same time. All the players I got so far from PMC and such, leave after I deny giving them OP. But only one or two have stayed.
I have checked dozens of threads of how to expand my playerbase, and I follow each and every one of them.
Yet no one plays regularly.
I have four staff members from across the globe as well.
Right now, I'm basically giving you everything about my server, so you can tell me what isn't getting players.
It's not what ISN'T getting me players, it's what gets me starter ones. They all say that mouth is the best advertising method, or PMC, I do that all the time, and I tell the friends of staff's friends to join, and some have, but don't stick around. Once again, I have a survival, towny server, with a creative plotme world as well. I have donor packs for the survival world, but nothing… Too OP. At least not for the amount of money given.
Thus, I ask the ones who have experienced this before, HOW DO YOU GET GOOD PLAYERS?!

I don't want just Tips here, I need hard evidence, and complete guidelines of how YOU got players. My server is fun, I love it, my staff loves it, and everyone else I told about it, gives it A+, but they just tell me "It needs more players bro! THEN it would be awesome!"

I want to create a server for a few friends and I. I'm wondering if it will slow down the internet for other people in my house when its on. Also, can you explain the RAM usage of a Minecraft server for me? I can simply turn off the server and I will have my full RAM, right?
So I'm trying to port forward my Minecraft Server, and it asks for my ipv4 address. So I look up how to find my ipv4 and it says for me to type in "ipconfig" into my cmd. So I go to do that, but it says: ""ipconfig" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." What does this mean? How do I find my ipv4?
I just changed my server-port in the server.properties because of the error Failed to bind port but now I have to use my ipthe ip address to join. Is their anyway to change the ip to a domain name like: pvpofgods.us. To when the actual ip to join is 76.248.202.55:25570?
My nephew lives in NY and I'm in Los Angeles, and we're trying to get into one another's Minecraft worlds. He plays by logging in online, and I have the application downloaded to my computer.
On my end, I've tried to add his server by entering the IP address, but I keep getting a "Can't Reach Server" message.
I also tried the Direct Connect option, but it fails to connect to the server and I get a message that says Operation Timed Out.
It should also be mentioned that I'm on a Mac OS X 10.6.8, and he is on a newer Windows PC…
Any light shed on this would be helpful for me!
At first it said it couldn't reach minecraft_server.1.7.4.jar, i youtubed it and changed it by adding the file location. This is my run.bat now:
