What are the best video settings for Minecraft?

I just got a new Laptop for Xmas this year. It's a new HP with Windows 8, and the only things I've downloaded on it so far have been a couple ROMS, a VBA emulator, Minecraft, a few songs off of youtube-mp3, and iTunes. When ever I break a piece of wood in Minecraft, it re-appears immediatelly everytime, and I have to either wait like 10 seconds for it to go away and for me to collect it, the same thing's happening for dirt and stone, I put my settings on a renderdistance of 14 chunks, no clouds, Unlimited Max Render Distance, Anisotropic Filtering is off, and Decreased Particals. Is it because I don't have windows 8.1 on my laptop? Or are there any better settings to put on there?

Someone threatened to DDOS me? On MINECRAFT?

Okay, so I was playing this game called Minecraft on multiplayer. When this dude private messaged me he was gonna ddos me because I "stole" his bow? (he dropped it) then, to the point, he said he was gonna ddos me. I don't know what ddosing is, or how its done but sounds like a virus. If so, how can I prevent this? Blocking ips? Reporting? I don't know. I may add further information if needed

If you could would be as kind as to take a minute to check if these parts will connect well and run games (battlefield 4, Call of Duty Ghosts, Minecraft, Just Cause 2, Zoo Tycoon, Space Engineers, etc) on medium/high to ultra settings I would be EXTREMELY greatful and you would greatly help me out. I'm new to pc building and if you are experienced and are unhappy/unsure about any of these components feel free to give any suggestions.

Cheap & Good Gaming Computer?

I'm looking for a gaming computer, or a computer that has a good enough processor, and graphics card to play games like TF2, Minecraft, etc… And be able to stream them. It doesn't have to be a gaming computer exactly (like Revolt, or Origin PCs.) Just something that'll allow me to to stream games, and movies at a good speed.
I'm looking for a computer within the $500-$1000 dollar range.
I don't want to spend over $1500 dollars.

Why does minecraft 1.7.4 not open?

When I open minecraft 1.7.4 the music plays then it just stays at a black screen and it doesn't open! I don't want to give up minecraft!
