Minecraft Launcher issue with old versions of the game?

I'm trying to play Beta 1.7.3, but when I click the play button, everything loads, but then just hangs on the launcher. This has been happening for a long time now. I have reinstalled the launcher and completely reset the.minecraft folder, yet the problem still persists.

Added (1). Not only does this happen with the version I'm trying to start, but every version below 1.6.1

Added (2). It has been able to use the launcher to play old versions before, it usually stops working when the launcher updates. And like I said, reinstalling it doesn't work. I suppose it could just really buggy and Mojang has yet to fix it.

Would it help if I upgraded to awireless N router?

I'm currently using a wireless-G router off of a Q-west DSL line. The loading speed slows way down if my kids start playing minecraft or Roblox. Would it help to upgrade to a wireless N router or should I just save my money?

Will touchscreen laptops be worth my money and will they run minecraft smoothly?

I'm going into my freshman year and have to type lots if essays for my honors English class. I've been saving money for a laptop and I have really been interested in touch screen laptops. I've been looking into the Acer Aspire laptops… I also love playing minecraft and was looking in a computer that will run it smoothly. Does anyone know if touch screen laptops (preferably Acer) will be able to run Minecraft smoothly.
I also want to know if the Acer Aspire touchscreen laptops are good in general. Are they worth the money?
Please note that I live in the country and have awful internet reception. This may effect the laptop I'm assuming. Anything helps

Is 512MB DDR2 of system memory good on an android tablet?

I'm thinking about getting an Ematic EGM003BL with Wi-Fi 7" Touchscreen Tablet PC Featuring Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) Operating System, Blue but I'm used to apple devices so when it said 512MB DDR2 of system memory I wasn't sure if that was a lot or not. I'm used to GB on my devices.

I would like to know because I would mostly use the tablet for games, especially like minecraft which the memory can add up quickly.
