Why does minecraft keep taking up ram?

I open minecraft and look at the usage of ram. It starts at 400 mb, then quickly jumps to 600-650. It keeps increasing until it has to close. It uses over two gigs of ram. I can't use my server for more than three minutes. This never happened before. I also have no mods, nothing that modifies the vanilla game or server other than a skin, but I've had that forever. I also have 8 gigs of ram, 4's usually available. It just keeps eating away at it.

Added (1). I'm using windows. I have 64 bit everything on a 64 bit system.

Why is my minecraft crashing?

So I downloaded the fossil and Archilogy mod. I also downloaded the minefactory and reload mod. When I open my minecraft it crashes. Btw I have version 1.7.10 and windows 8.

Does Acer Aspire X AXC-605-UR1D can run minecraft with full of mods and shaders, Battlefield 4, far cry 4, Grand Theft Auto 5?

because it has intel core i3-4160, clocking at 3.60 Ghz I'm not sure if this processor can run these games at high resolution and high fps?

the ram is 4 gb but i will upgrade it to 8 GB.

I have a server that is modded and I need to add a new mod that will change the world generation (flat bedrock). How do I do this without losing the world, or is it something I need to start all over with?

Minecraft lagged after installing shaders?

I recently installed the shaders mod I minecraft. Then my minecraft turned very slow and laggy so I disabled it. Even after disabling the mod, restarting minecraft and deleting it from the.minecraft folder, my minecraft was still very slow. This has never happened before.

Looking for a Minecraft mod! What is it called?

The mod added different towns depending on the biom. Like Japanese or Indian and various other ones two. When you found the town you can have the villagers build different things, like a small house and things. To have them build the house, you had to put all the things they needed into the chest, and away they would build.

I last used this mod a long time ago, maybe a year or two. Does anyone else know the name of this mod?

What specs/hardware should I get for my new computer?

I'm buying a new computer here in the coming weeks, and would like some input as to the hardware specs that will work for me, without going overboard. Its main use will be for playing Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO and Minecraft. I would like to play Star Wars on its highest graphics settings, and run Minecraft with a few mods and at similar draw distances to the Xbox One version of the game.

I installed a Minecraft mod and now Minecraft Won't open. Help?

Added (1). I installed Mo' Creatures for minecraft 1.7.2 and now when I open the launcher, everything happens as its supposed to. But when the browser goes away… Nothing happens. Please Help:/
