MacBook Pro battery exploded?

I have a 17'' MacBook Pro Late 2006 model i know its pretty old but i got in the box brand new like a year ago free from a friend that never used it because they had a 12 core mac pro. Today i was downloading the 10.7 Lion update then out of no were i heard a POP and i saw the laptop jump a little when i looked at the battery it was all swollen. I'm just asking but shouldn't apple be held responsible for this did they do a recall because this is unacceptable and dangerous do you think i could get a free battery replacement.

And to all the people that say just buy a new one its an old laptop anyways well it does what I need it to do which is web browsing email Microsoft Word and Minecraft normal settings at 60fps so i don't see the need in upgrading.

Maybe in fairy tale land. Your battery along with your pc is long since out of warranty.

Where did you buy your MacBook Pro? I heard of apple products catching fire or blowing up it just hasn't happened to me yet I hope it never does. Take it back where you bought it and show them the laptop I don't think they'll give you a new one or a free battery.

Same thing happened with my old one from 2007. You don't want to leave them in there, otherwise it may damage the internal software. Unless your computer is still in warranty, you can't get a free battery replacement; you'll have to get a new one.
