Just quit cold turkey. Make a #quittingminecraftfor21days kind of goal and then after the 21 days never play it again. Helped me with my Netflix addiction, YouTube addiction, etc.

It's entertainment. What you do on your own time has nothing to do with your friends.

Just because they don't play games doesn't mean you shouldn't. You don't tell them which TV shows or movies they shouldn't be watching, do you? This is no different.

If a group of friends thinks that they have to have the same similar group-think or you're not a friend, that sounds to me to be the better alternative.
