I'm guessing because you are constantly gathering new resources, and even playing a few minutes can help you. It is kind of like MMOs with leveling up and trying to get as powerful as possible.

Because of building. When you make a house, you say "i bet I could make a skyscraper" then when you're done with that "I bet I could build a city" etc.

Minecraft was addicting because there was no limit to what you could build or do. But since the new updates its gotten worse, and worse, and worse.
