What is the windows server OS?

I have some questions about windows server, specifically Windows Server 2012 R2.
I will soon be buying HP ProLiant MicroServer AMD NEO N54L, I want something to mess around with but I need a bit of help getting into it.

Can it run.exe?
Does it run normal windows 7 applications?
Can I access it remotely with the default windows application?
Can I use it as a Minecraft server, media server, HomeGroup, Website, game servers, etc?

Yes, because it's just a stripped down version of windows 8.

You can remote access the server by installing Desktop Experience and looking for Remote Desktop. You can run it a a minecraft server, media server, etc etc.
