Why does MCPatcher never work for me?

Okay, so I've been playing Minecraft for like a year or so, and enjoyed plenty of mods through Minecraft Forge. There's just one thing I can never have: MCPatcher. I've always wanted the connected textures and random mobs, but it never works. Sometimes it'll make Minecraft crash, other times it literally does nothing when I patch it. I have Java x64 on a 64-bit laptop. Am I not download MCPatcher from the right site? This is driving me crazy!
