I've tried it at least 6 different times with 6 different instructional videos. I tried the simple ways, and the extremely long, delete this file, delete that file, rename this file, copy this, copy that, etcetera, way. I just can't seem to get it to work. I also tried installing Forge, but all I get are outdated and spam links.
I'm running Minecraft 1.7.4
Mac OS Mavericks 10.9.1
It won't work in 1.7+, Rei hasn't yet updated it, nor has Risugami updated Modloader to support 1.7 and above.
Links promising the latest version of Modloader/Rei's Minimap are false, neither author has managed to update their mod due to the amount of code put into the new version of Minecraft- it will take time until we see compatible mods supporting 1.7.
It's best to stalk the correct threads on the Minecraft forum in the meantime so you'll know when an update is available, as well as knowing when the mod is compatible directly from Rei.

If you want a working minimap/modloader, it's best to downgrade to 1.6.2 and use them with their compatible builds in the meantime.
How to install Rei's Minimap Mod for MC 1.7.x
- Download and install Minecraft Forge
- Download Rei's Minimap Mod
- Put downloaded zip file into %appdata%/.minecraft/mods/ folder. Do not unzip it. If you don't have a mods folder, create one
- Done and Enjoy!
