How to get more fps in minecraft?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and I'm running a 64 bit on it but I continue to get from 5-15 fps compared to my friend on an OLD desktop who was getting 60+. How can I increase my minecraft fps?

Run it at low setting without clouds, fog, etc. The best option is to get a better computer such as a gaming one. The graphics card and processor can only do so much so upgrading those can also help.
