Is the installation of Windows 10 good idea?

I want to install Windows 10 on my Toshiba laptop. I'm worried that I will lost my files (pictures, videos etc.), and that games like Sims4, Sims3, Minecraft, GTA will not run on it. Do you have experience with new Windows? Is it good for gaming and programing?

Something not adding up here. You are interested in programming (which is typically coding or some other form of Software Engineering) and you are so ignorant about a current, albeit new, operating system?

As for games, yes it works fine. Not all games will, and I don't have any of the games you play, but all mine so far are fine.

If you want to play it safe, backup your files first.

Some people are having problems but unless something major happens you will be able to perform a rollback at any time (within 30 days) to the Windows you have now if you experience any issues.

I upgraded one laptop just fine to Windows 10, but my other one (that has a lot of stuff on it) got a problem because after the upgrade it was going to boot into Windows 10 for the first time and it crashed, and restarted, and crashed again, and went on like this for some time. But eventually after a few failed boot attempts the computer automatically performed a rollback and everything was like before I upgraded again.

So since it can perform a rollback within 30 days it's not too bad to try I'd say, but the very important stuff should always be backed up anyway.

Your games shouldn't have any problems to run. Neither programming.

While there have been some issues with the Win 10 install, mostly related to updates and drivers, there are NOT reports of the install causing data lose. MS seems to have done a good job in that part of the install.

There's always that change that something can do wrong, so it is recommened that you backup your data files (pictures, videos, etc) before you do the install. Copy them to something that is NOT the hard drive of your computer such as disc, exernal hard drive or memory stick(s).

If the program runs on Win 8 (and Sim4, Sim3, Minecraft and GTA do) then it will run on Win 10. In fact the program is MORE compatible with older software (programs for Win 7 and XP) that was Win 8. All those programs you listed will still work with Win 10.

If you are uncertain about the update, hold off. You have until late July of next year to do the update. Wait another couple months, give other people the time to find the bugs in the install and let MS repair them. In another 60 to 90 days they should have all the major issues dealt with and you should have a better chance of doing the install without any issues.

I have supervised a number of installations and while nothing significant went missing its always best to back up all your personal stuff - don't forget your favourites / bookmarks and game files.

It destroys your computer
