An intel processor has to be i5 4th generation or higher with at least 6GB memory and and use a Win 7 or Linux Mint but not Win 8 - 8.1 you'll be disappointed

I would recommend MSI or Asus ROG both are affordable and have many hardware advancements for gaming.

There are many things that qualify a laptop as "good for gaming". The processor should be an intel core i5 or core i7, or an equivalent AMD chip. You also want at least 4gb of RAM. For the amount of money you have, you could probably get a better gaming experience with an AMD chip due to their better built in graphics. You will most likely find it quite difficult to find a laptop with the specs you want that falls within your budget. I would suggest holding off until you get a little more money.
And as for one of the comments above, Ti, you can use any version of windows you want. I love windows 8 and use it on a regular basis, it is all personal preference as to whether you like the new interface or not. And would advise against Linux for gaming. Less games have support for it.
