I have a external hard drive (1T) but on my current laptop when I deleted it from its hard drive and tried to play it off the external one it put it back on the computers hard drive and played it from there. I'm giving up after a good year of trying to figure it out. So what is the best computer that will keep my files on my external hard drive and run those games, as well as be the cheapest one that does these. I prefer a laptop because I ran Sims on it I know it isn't recommend but I love taking my games with me when I travel.

Sometimes, video games won't play from external hard drive even if all game files are present. This is because, video games need to register with system files (to know type of graphics card, display properties, etc)
Sims 3, Sims 4, Minecraft, Garry's Mod, etc are all medium range video games. Consider Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG 15.6" Full HD Laptop. It's got NVIDIA 940MX graphics card to play all those games
