On softonic there's a free minecraft download it says its virus free it even has a list of virus softwares saying that it is but is it or are they lieing

Softonic is a legit website, download it, though it will most likely be the "Free-Trial" version, and you would have to buy the key to register your minecraft software.
try torrenting it, though it's harder to find legit ones, once you get it, it'll work perfectly fine, and the uploader usually provide you with the serial key
