It won't let me type usernames or "stop". I've been up for hours trying to figure this out.

Make yourself OP by using the console. Type in the console "op (your username)" without the brackets.
after that, it should work. The next thing you should do after that is get a permissions plugin and set the permissions for all users so they can do stuff.
