Ok so this is what's going on me and my friend have been trying to get on my server for a while now. I can get on my server but only when i use my internal ip i have port forwarded about 3 different times all with same result ( and don't worry i delete the previous one before attempting again) i have searched my public ip on 3 different websites and its all the same i have even tried to change the port to 25566. The command prompt also says that everything is workign perfectly and says "done" at the end. I'm on a pc with a 64-bit operating system. Btw i forgot to say that this is a bukkit server i'm trying to make. It only has 1 plugin ( not sure if that has to do with anything) please help as soon as possible

Does the WAN IP of your router match what whatismyip.com shows?
The default port for minecraft is 25565 unless you changed server-port= in server.properties file. It is best to leave server-ip= blank.
Assuming that the server is running, canyouseeme.org should show if that port is open. Make sure it is not blocked by a firewall on the server.
If you have a router behind a combo modem/router it gets a bit more complicated. In that case on the modem/router you would need to forward the port to WAN IP of 2nd router, then on 2nd router forward the port to LAN IP of server.
You might not be able to connect to the server from same LAN using your public IP because many routers do not do loopback (LAN2LAN via WAN or public IP).
