Why isn't my hdmi cord working for the ps3?

So, I recently bought a hdmi cord from family dollar for the ps3 to play splitscreen on minecraft, I set it up using the video output and it worked fine! Until one of my family members came and broke the hdmi cord while it was still in the ps3. I then went out to buy a new cord but from gamestop. I plugged it in and tried to change the output to hdmi, but it didn't work. I then reset ps3 settings by holding the on/off button and tried it again, but it still didn't work… How can I make it work again?

Return it to gamestop and exchange it for a new one.

It's dead and needs to be replaced

It sounds like the PS3 HDMI port got broken, too, when whatever happened to the HDMI cable caused it to break. That's the most probable explanation. So you'll have to either use the AV Composite (aka RCA - red/white/yellow) or a Component (red/green/blue/red/white) cable, or just get a new PS3.
