I've heard that they could help improve minecraft's FPS, but I have been unsuccessful in finding one that still works.
The closest i've found is FPS plus. If someone knows how to get it working, I'm all ears. http://www.minecraftforum.net/...5-2-1-7-10

Fog Key
1. Delete Meta-Inf from minecraft.jar
2. Download and install Minecraft forge into minecraft.jar
3. Download Fog Key and place it into the mods folder located in.minecraft
