I'm attempting to mod Minecraft, but can't get it to work?

I have recently been trying to add mods to minecraft, using the forge tool. I have been using 1.7.2, and so have ensured that all my mods are 1.7.2- and forge- compatible. However, when trying to launch minecraft after placing the mods into a 'mods' folder that I made in '.minecraft', and launching the game, it simply kept crashing. After briefly skimming through the crashlog, I temporarily removed the mods whose names were coming up in said crashlog and tried again. This brings us to my current situation: now the launcher closes as usual when I click 'play', but nothing happens after this point. No game launches, the launcher doesn't even reappear with the crashlog. Please help as I have no idea what to do past this point!
