Minecraft connected textures?

I have optifine and mcpatcher and I use the sphax texture pack and I want connected textures and I don't know how to use connected textures. The connected textures option in video settings is set to fancy. I'm in 1.8

Optifine is currently not for 1.8 which is why it isn't working for you.
