I'm looking for a laptop nothing to special I'm a college student however weight and size are not problems. I'm not looking for the most up to date model. All I'm looking for is a good computer for minor gaming like KSP, Minecraft, etc. And want a good processor so I don't lag wile playing. Would also like good resolution. Doesn't have to be 1080p. But would also watch DVD's on it so must have a disk drive. But I'm on a budget and would like to stay under $700 on this. I have tried several website quizzes to find the best laptop for me but I feel that a personal opinion is better. So does any1 have a suggested model or would a computer like this be well over $700?
Is there a computer like this?
There are tons of laptops in your range expecially since you are willing to spend up to $700. I would suggest staying away from Acer. Since your a college student you probably want to get a laptop that would last a while. Lenovo is a highly ranked brand they are #2 in quality and customer support. The number one in quality is Apple. Of course Apple is over priced due to its popularity.
Since you do not want major gaming and do not mind not having 1080p we can find you many laptops that fit this price range. I will list a couple for you. Some are from my website and some will be from another website.
This laptop is from my website and has a I5 processor. This is a pretty powerful laptop.

This laptop would probably be the best one for you. It actually has an I3 processor which is perfect for low quality games such as minecraft. This will not host 1080p but is good for a college student.

This laptop is from best buy and it is very powerful and a touch screen it fits in your price range but I do not know if you need this much power for games like minecraft.

I build computers for fun and work on them all the time. Also, I run a computer parts, computer, and video game website.
$700.00 price range is a good start as most decent, older laptops start with a price range of $400.00 to $800.00 but those aren't classified as "gaming" laptops. Gaming laptops are considered to have an upgraded GPU(Graphics Processor Unit) and those alone can cost up to $400.00 for mobile laptops(PC computers GPU can cost more than double for high end).
Minor application use on a laptop such as web browsing and video viewing can be sustainable under a $400.00 price range. The Google Chromebook is a good buy for simple useage which is $250.00. Understanding you want to play games throws that out the window.
Starting with used models, there are great buys and even a gaming laptop is a good choice. I've had the "ASUS G71GX-RX05 17.1-Inch Notebook PC" which does all as offered. It is Windows Vista so that might be a turn off. It is classed as a gaming laptop again, it is no so much with office but offers all the basic applications. Easily installable if you upgrade to Windows 7 Office or Professional(which I've heard people done without a problem) if your planning on using it for office/school demanding applications all upgradable software options.
It's an older model but can sustain Call of Duty Black Ops at 60fps with max settings.
There are other options for laptops but anything newer or higher powered in specs will drive up the cost. You can find a flashy computer at a Best Buy or other electronics store for under $700.00 but more then most all don't offer a sustainable high frame rate and high resolution when dealing with gaming purposes.
Even a laptop that costs $1,500.00 may sound like a good buy. It may have what appears as a great GPU but once you install Skyrim you realize it can't support high frame rates without having to go to a lower setting on graphics. Some GPU's are classed only for video processing(not 3D graphics). Yeah they may have a great GPU but totally suck dealing with 3D.
Minecraft isn't too demanding on GPU's at default settings, but with mods, you'll be surprised how amazing minecraft can look with texture packs and layers.
I know I'm not much help but to decide what laptop appeals to YOU but I hope I have you some options to base your search on.
