Is it bad parenting to let your 11 year old be unsupervised on the computer?

A girl was kidnapped by a man she met through Minecraft a few days ago. Her parents knew she talked to strangers but had no idea that she was in danger. They can't release any info, but from what I read this kid had free instant access. Not all kids are in danger, but would this be a bad idea?

Yes.

Worse than that would be NOT TALKING TO YOUR KIDS about online dangers and how adults pose as children to lure children.

When I was a kid my parents told me to never release info about myself on the internet and they always told me to stay away from people who want to meet or want to know personal info. It's the parents fault for not ingraining that into their kids head. Also I believe you need supervision as a kid. Looking back on those stupid games I played. I wish my parents forbid me from playing them and I wish I was outside more. If you are a parent or a older sibling, play with your younger siblings and kids more. Don't let them rely on games so much for entertainment. It's a negative escape from life. Have them play activities outside are better and healthier. Now that I know better I spend as much time as I can outside. Too much technology is bad. Enjoy real life.

Yes. Doubt you would leave them unsupervised anywhere else, not unless you want to see their picture on a milk carton.
