I found a rail in minecraft, is there an abandoned mineshaft nearby?

I was wandering around a forest and saw a dropped rail. I didn't drop it because i don't think i've ever been to this part of the world. Also i've never even found a rail before, i've never even made one. So i know its not mine.
and i'm playing on single player.
so i don't think some other player could have dropped it.

but anyways does this mean there's an abandoned mineshaft nearby?

Possibly I would follow it to see if there's one near by

Abandoned mines aren't above ground, but you can certainly try and look for it. It's possible that there's a village nearby (or was).

Maybe it glitched into the world or there's a village nearby. It might have also glitched out of a mineshaft so I suggest you dig down if you want to find the mineshaft.
