So my brother downloaded Minecraft and I made my own survival world and I already have a lot of good stuff and I want to set a waypoint but I don't know how, if you know a way for me to set a waypoint please tell me, thanks.

You can't waypoints on minecraft without the Rei's Mini Map mod, which may be difficult to get. Push F3 to read the X and Z co-ordinates and write them down so you can use them to make your way back.
You can set spawns using beds which you sleep in at night (3 wool on top of 3 wooden planks). You can also teleport to each other if you have cheats on by typing /tp (player you are teleporting) (player you are teleporting to)

There's is nice plugin called Sortal for bukkit. It lets you set signs with XYZ coords, and teleport to those coords. There are a few other plugins, one is jcommands that supports:
/back - teleport you to your last teleport destination, or where you last died.
/sethome - set a place called your "home".
/home - teleport you to your home
You really need to run a bukkit server, drop in a few plugins, and then you can do amazing things with minecraft.
