How to increase fps on minecraft?

Recently, I had been trying to play Minecraft again. Back when i first built my computer in 2012, I was able to run Minecraft at a solid 60 fps. Now, whenever i try to play it, the highest i get is 30 fps and frequent dips into the 20s. I have an AMD Radeon HD 7950 Graphics card and an AMD fx 4150 quad core processor. I have checked to make sure I have all of the current drivers for my video card and that my monitor is plugged into my video card. I have also tried Optifine, which hasn't helped either. Does anyone know a solution?

Added (1). I guess it should also be noted that I have 16 gigs of ram, which is definitely overkill for Minecraft. Also, I've noticed FPS dips occurring in other games as well that I used to be able to run at 60 fps just fine.

Hard to give a good answer on this as you're specs are definitely fine for MInecraft, try uninstalling and reinstalling maybe?

Only thing I can think of is some malware or virus. There's no reason to drop FPS with your hardware unless something else is using up CPU cycles or other resources, including Internet bandwidth.

Lots of things can be used to help, One would be to check if you drivers are up to date. Two would be to check for malware and viruses. Three would be to check if your hardware is working correcting. Four is that you could try to download optifine again, download the ultra version which includes an option for multi core rendering, optifine creates massive FPS increases and so if it didn't make any difference to yours its either that you downloaded it wrong or that something is interfering with your fps.
