How to craft this on minecraft?

I want to craft a powered rail, but I can't find the dark red powder needed to craft it. I don't know what it's called or where I can find it.

The dark red powder that you need is called redstone and is found underground in caves. If I'm correct, redstone generates 16-20 blocks up from bedrock level. They can only be mined with an iron pickaxe or a diamond one. Be sure to bring a lot of torches when you go mining so you don't get lost. Hope i helped!
