OK, so I have a friend, he is a computer guy, and he doesn't want to join a small Minecraft server. He says he doesn't want to play because he WILL GET A DDOS! Not if. How can I convince him that playing on a server is ok and YOU WILL NOT GET A VIRUS! I have a VIP on the server, which means I can report others.

It's near impossible to get DoS'd on Minecraft, as DoSing needs the victim's IP address. If you and your friend talk over skype and use your Minecraft Character Name as your Skype ID, then you might want to use a different Voice Over Internet Program, as searching Skype for the person's Character Name can allow access to others to view that person's IP address, but only if you're online in Skype.
And your friend isn't the smartest tech-savvy person, as (from what you've said in the description) that he "doesn't want to get DDoSed". DDoS is Distributed Denial of Service, typically it's a DoS (Denial of Service) attack, but from multiple sources/locations, which is hard to set up if you're doing it alone and is more effective when multiple people use this attack. I assume they're more worried about a DoS attack, which is easier for one person to do and still gets the job done.
