MINECRAFT Do you need xbox live to update?

For MinEcraft XBOX 360 version do you need Xbox live to update TU(Title Updates?)?
Because I got xbox 360 version after TU12 came out and I can't seem to make an Iron golem and there's no jungle trees anywhere?

You don't need a paid subscription, but you do need to have made a free account and connected your console to the internet.
