I know this is a silly question, you need Xbox Live to play any online multiplayer games on Xbox. But since Minecraft just released a new version that's supposed to be compatible with the Better Together update, do you still need Xbox Live to play online, considering PE and Windows 10 users don't have to. I usually play on the PC (more like exclusively), but if online multiplayer is free, I might give Xbox Minecraft a go. Every Google result for this is just asking about the Xbox 360.
Do you need Xbox Live to play Minecraft multiplayer?

Yes, Xbox Live Gold is still required.

Yes, you still need Live Gold if you're playing from a device that needs it. Sure it's cross-play with other Better Together versions that don't need to pay to play online, but the console rules about needing Gold still apply.
