Is it possible for me to play minecraft on my xbox and have my friend join on their phone?

I think Microsoft did announce something along those lines at E3 last week. Not too sure about the specifics though.

Not right now however at E3 they did announce cross-platform between Xbox, Switch, PC/Mac & Mobile so yes it will be coming very soon, just isn't a feature yet
