How to survive in the nether?(Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition)?

I'm doing a hunt for the Ender Dragon on my Xbox, and I have lots of iron, a diamond armor set, a diamond sword, golden apples, a couple of enchanted bows. Most important, I have a nether portal. How to survive long enough to find a nether fortress?
TLDR: Help me survive long enough to find a nether fortress.

Make sure as soon as you spawn in, build a cobblestone room around your nether portal. Ghasts can shoot fireballs and knock out your portal. I'd advise putting a chest in there as well in case you gather some materials you don't want to lose.

Also, getting a blaze rod from the blazes and making a brewing stand to make fire resistance potions will be VERY helpful. You'll need nether wart and magma cream for the potion, and I like to add glowstone dust as it increases potency. With one of those, you can pretty much fall in lava and not die.
