How to play minecraft multiplayer splitscreen?

I already know "i need an HD tv" yes, i've got that covered. Thats not what i'm looking for.
want an answer. Me and my friend want to play multiplayer on her xbox but we spent about 2 hours looking things up and nothing.

I think you just have to press start on the other control pad and click join game. It can be done in game i believe.
