Basically, I know a little about how to develop plugins for Minecraft's Bukkit API, and I was wondering if that would make learning Java slightly easier since I know a bit about an API.
Would learning pure Java be easier if I know a little about an API built on Java?

I would think so. I mean, if you know how to use an API that was written in Java, then when you actually learn Java, you might see some constructs that look familiar / you've seen before. Obviously you won't be able to instantly understand what's going on, but you won't feel uncomfortable working with something you've never heard, seen, or touched before.
