Windows 8 Hard Drive problems?

I was playing Minecraft when my laptop (Gateway NE56R) Crashed. Then, as it attempted to restart, I noticed it said "No bootable device found". So I went into the BIOS settings and changed boot order to HDD first. It now starts up and logs in fine, but once I get to the desktop, it is slow to load icons and when I attempt to open a file, it hangs for a bit, then explains to me that, "Windows is not responding," and asks if I, "would like to close it?" If I click yes, it closes Windows and just freezes on a black screen, but if I click no, nothing happens. Please help me, I don't really have money to get a new laptop or PC. Thanks in advance, guys.

And, no. I didn't create a backup disk… :/

Post brand, model number as well as OS oof the laptop when asking for help.
Did you create the W8 recovery disc set or DVD for the computer?
You will find this info at the support website of the laptop manufacturer as well as in the laptop user guide/manual. Go to safe mode back up your files to external media the restart and go to recovery and do a system recovery to put it back to factory to correct the corrupt operating system start up files or order the recovery disc set or DVD from the manufacturer support for the computer.
All computers are set to boot from the hard drive so no need to reset it to boot from hard drive.

Sounds like toy might've gotten a virus… I'd download an antivirus like Avast free edition.
