I'm planning on upgrading my RAM to 8GB. I currently have 3GB of RAM on my laptop. I used the website called Can You Run It and it said that I needed more RAM and that my video card is fine and good for minecraft.
So, if I buy more RAM will minecraft run faster without lag for me?
P.S. I have a 64 bit operating system and AMD Athlon(tm) II P340 Dual-Core Processor

Yes definitely get more RAM! Many programs require at least 2GB of RAM but at least 4GB is recommended. 8GB of RAM is plenty to run Minecraft. You may even be able to get a few mods.
Minecraft is CPU dependent 4 GB of ram enough for that game. A better CPU would get you higher fps over the ram.
Ram, rarely has much effect on gaming
You might get better performance out of running Minecraft/Other Games when upgrading ram HOWEVER, minecraft is also CPU Dependant as well. There are a few things that determain the smoothness of running minecraft. I run Feed The Beast Mod Packs and allocate at least 6GB of Ram and a core of my Quad Core gaming laptop to it and never have performance issues.
