Why is Minecraft not running/opening?

Whenever I open Minecraft.exe, it just says "Unable to access jarfile C:\Users\*******\Documents\Downloads\Min… I don't know what the problem is? I downloaded both 32 and 64-bit versions of Java. Is the problem the download location(C:\Document\Downloads) or is it because my laptop has Windows 8 or something else?

Added (1). This is the first time I downloaded Minecraft in this laptop.

Added (2). I downloaded Magic Launcher, and it says "Unable to access jarfile C:\Users\*******\Documents\Downloads\Mag… Is it possible that the download location is the problem?

No duh its because you have Windows 8 its a curse a plague get rid of that ****.

The.Exe could be confusing the Java versions? I have windows 8 as well and have no problems running the game. 1 thing you may try is to download Magic Launcher? I use that on occasion, and used to use it all the time.
Also try to use the main exe instead of the shortcut? I know that my game is installed into the AppData folder. Check there by heading to C/Users/Appdata You might have to type in appdata in the search bar uptop when you get to C/Users/********
