Why does the Windows folder itself take up as much space as game files? I don't get it?

I was shocked to find out that Minecraft saves took up the most amount of storage space equal to The Sims 3 and its expansion packs. How come Windows ends up taking the same amount of storage?

If you look at the file size of a folder, you get the total size of everything inside it.

The folder itself takes up no space. But if you have two 100MB files in a folder and then check the folder properties, it will tell you it takes up 200 MB.

Minecraft worlds are actually quite big in terms of data, and can take up several GB if they get big enough.
