Why does my wolf in Minecraft have no collar but it's following me?

I found a wolf and it's my pet now (at least I think it is ) it's following me but has no collar also I can't feed it

Try to feed it more bones, it usually takes like 3 or 4. If it is your wolf, you can feed it meat.
