Why does my new GPU perform worse in Minecraft than my old one?

I just got my R7 260X, and I upgraded from a GeForce 8600 GTS. The new card should perform a lot better, but it performs a lot worse in Minecraft than before. In other games it's perfectly fine, so I don't know if it's an optimization thing.
