Why does my boat keep breaking once I use it awhile on minecraft?

If your playing on survival then its because you have used it for so long, its like a pick axe once you have used it so many times it finally breaks

It will break if it hits things while you are using it, that can include squid or lily pads, or getting too close to the shore.
