Let me say this, I do have an incredibly powerful PC, I mostly use it for games like Crisis 3, Battlefield, and Far Cry and I'm able to max out all of them. But I do like to play minecraft every now and again.
I have an Intel Core i7 4770k, An NVIDIA GTX 780, and all of the best hardware of today's standards.
I'm barley able to surpass 15 FPS on the lowest graphical settings. Half the time it is completely unplayable. The PC is about 7 months old, custom built by me. Anyone know a solution? Iv'e researched and I found that my machine should be able to reach over 100 FPS on the highest settings, even with a x128 texture pack.

update/use a different version of java minecraft is made for java 6 i think
MAYBE ITS just minecraft, mojang isn't exactly a grade A coding company.
also, try just playing with the settings, and play with the voulumes and reinstall it somewhere else, try a different version, minecraft is a very… Needy game

I disagree with xbow, minecraft runs well on my pc which is not even half as good as Mike's.
try deleting your.minecraft directory and downloading it all again (don't delete the saves folder in.minecraft)
